Film Screening: Monir
June 14, 2018, 7:00 PM-8:30 PM
Monir is a documentary film that looks at the life and work of Iranian artist Monir Shahroudy Farmanfarmaian, whose work is on view at GRAM May 19 to August 26, 2018. The film offers an intimate view of the artist’s lifelong practice and explores how she has become one of the most innovative and influential artists working in the Middle East today. From her experiences of political upheaval in Iran and her migration to New York, to her method of constructing mirror mosaics, it offers an inspiring chronicle of Monir at the peak of her career.
“A necessary and moving documentary about one of the most remarkable artists ever born in Iran; this film beautifully captures the creative process and personal journey of a woman artist who after years of living a life in exile, returns home in her 80s, produces some of her best work, and finally receives the international recognition she so well deserves.” – Shirin Neshat
