Lunch and Learn: Women’s History Month – Women in Art
March 19, 2019, 12:00 PM-1:00 PM
Bring your lunch and join GRAM for a free lunch and learn event in honor of Women‘s History Month. During this event, GRAM docents Beth Samp and Karen Mouws will give a presentation and gallery tour exploring the representation of women in art history–both as subject and as an artist.
This event will celebrate the many important accomplishments of women artists throughout art history and will include discussion of works by Harriet Frishmuth, Grace Hartigan, Kara Walker, Anila Quayyum Agha, and Monir Farmanfarmaian. The presentation will also examine how male artists approached female subjects in the 19th century, with examples of portraits by William Merritt Chase and Albert-Ernest Carrier-Belleuse compared and contrasted with works by women artists such as Lilla Cabot Perry.
