Join GRAM for a conversation between Curator, Ron Platt and Juana Williams, Exhibitions Curator for the Urban Institute of Contemporary Arts (UICA), immediately followed by a reception. Platt and Williams will discuss Relevant: Abstraction from GRAM’s Collection an exhibition guest-curated Williams. Relevant features eleven abstract paintings and works on paper from GRAM’s permanent collection. During the 1950s through the 1970s, when most of the works in the exhibition were created, artists were evaluating whether abstraction could still be a relevant form of expression. The art in Relevant demonstrates how abstraction still proved to be a stimulating arena for artists, and capable of personal expression in a variety of unique approaches. Relevant is on view concurrently with the UICA’s exhibition SPECTRA, also curated by Williams. Conceived as two parts of a whole, Relevant and SPECTRA examine abstract art through historical and contemporary lenses.

Following this conversation, from 7 – 9 pm, celebrate Relevant with music, a cash bar, and mingling with fellow art lovers.

Stick around for GRAM After Dark: Quiet Clubbing from 10 pm – 1 am. Tickets available online.
