Internships are generally available within the following departments: curatorial, development, education, membership/special events, and public relations. Descriptions of open internships are available for download below. Selected interns will gain first hand experience working in their field of interest or study. Interns work under the supervision of department heads and assist in the daily activities of the department, which can range from special projects and research to clerical support. Internships vary depending on department need. Most internships are unpaid; however, students may receive academic credit. Students are responsible for making arrangements with their schools to receive credit for internships. Any paid internship opportunities will be stated as such.

Interactive Gallery Intern

March 31-August 31, 2015

Description: The Grand Rapids Art Museum is seeking a highly motivated intern who is a self-starter to create, execute, and evaluate an interactive space for an upcoming exhibition. Working with departments such as Communications/Public Relations, Education, and Curatorial, this position will be responsible for creating a large scale representation of the Grand Rapids skyline (media to be discussed upon appointment), to be populated with crowd sourced photos submitted via social media.

Candidates must have an acute attention to detail, great communication skills, artistically inclined (drawing/painting a plus), and be social media savvy. Applicants adept with Adobe Creative Suite, or other similar programs and with previous museum experience are preferred.
