GRAM is pleased to announce the new acquisition of twenty-two engravings by William Blake, comprising the full set of the Illustrations of the Book of Job. These early nineteenth-century prints are the most recent addition to GRAM’s Jansma Collection. Initiated in 2005, this collection of 79 etchings, engravings, and woodcuts by master artists who have been inspired by Christian faith and Biblical themes, is the highlight of the Museum’s Works on Paper Collection. Heralded as Blake’s masterpiece as a printmaker, the Book of Job engravings inventively combine quotations from biblical texts with scenes of Job’s journey through the trials and tribulations that bring him to a new spiritual awareness.
