Girl Scout Troops
Bring your troop to GRAM for an enriching experience while working towards badges!
The staff at the Grand Rapids Art Museum would like to invite Girl Scout Troops to discover our collection of paintings, sculptures, and works on paper! GRAM continues to offer a variety of ways to earn badges, learn life lessons, and experience world class art in the setting of our breath taking facilities. Every Saturday from 10am–3pm GRAM offers the Saturday All Day with The Arts program which provides gallery tours and art-making activities. This is a new, dynamic way for Girl Scouts to view, create, and learn about art in the heart of downtown.
Enhance your visit by adding a hands-on studio workshop with your tour. At this time, we are offering the following tour themes:
Girl Scout Tour
Introduce Girl Scouts to artworks created by female artists and the influences women have on art as represented by GRAM’s collection and temporary exhibitions. Build museum literacy skills through interactive activities led by docent in galleries.
GRAM Staff Female Speakers
Add a layer to your visit by including a presentation by a female staff member of GRAM. Speakers are based on availability and 30 minute intervals.
Designed specifically for Girl Scouts!
Learning to Look
A great way to introduce your group to GRAM! Analyze the formal qualities of art to gain understanding of the art-making process. Identify and discuss elements and principles such as composition, color, line, texture, scale, proportion, balance, contrast, and rhythm. Through conversation in the galleries, your scouts will unlock the choices artists make to tell their stories.
Work towards your Legacy Artist badge. Docents (Artist Guides) can focus on each type of art skill necessary to complete the badge, specific to each level of Girl Scouts.
Complete your museum visit requirement for the Brownie Painting Artist Badge and the Senior Collage Artist Badge.
Investigate the relationship between nature and the visual arts and acquire the observation skills needed to interpret and find meaning in art. Discover how works on view at the world’s first LEED Gold Certified art museum, depict different responses to nature including awe, fear, control, wonder, domination, curiosity, and more. Through careful observation, discuss how artists have portrayed landscapes / the environment and what emotions or ideas they evoke.
Get inspired for your Legacy: Naturalist badge! Docents can focus on each different Legacy: Naturalist Badge theme for Brownies, Juniors, Cadettes, and Ambassadors.
Brownies, this is a great fit for your Painting Artist Badge.
Tours of Temporary Exhibitions:
Experience an exclusive look at temporary art exhibitions that travel to prominent art institutions around the nation and world. Temporary art exhibitions change regularly. View Current Exhibitions, Future Exhibitions, and our Programming Calendar.
Depending on the exhibition, similar badge requirements can be met as the tours listed above.
GRAM is a special and memorable way for your troop to journey through the Girl Scout Program. As you schedule your tour, please keep in mind that docents are based on availability. Self-guided tours offer more scheduling flexibility.
The staff at GRAM looks forward to your troop’s visit!
