Day Trip to Chicago
Friday August 9, 2013
Join GRAM Director Dana Friis-Hansen an exciting Day Trip to Chicago. We will be guided on an exclusive early morning of Impressionism, Fashion, and Modernity, a revealing look at the role of fashion in eighty major paintings by Degas, Manet, Monet, Renoir, and Seurat, including many never before seen in North America. Art is paired with period costumes, accessories, fashion plates, photographs, and popular prints that highlight the vital relationship between fashion and art from the mid-1860s to the mid-1880s.

Enjoy lunch and lively conversation with new friends in the Art Institute’s private Millennium Park Room then we’ll visit the studio and urban loft home of fabric artist and performer Nick Cave. His colorful, extravagant sculptures, which he calls Soundsuits, can stand alone in galleries as visually compelling art objects, or can be worn by dancers as vehicles for sound and movement. Cave’s work was featured last fall at the grand opening of the new AK Rikk’s store, and recently dazzled passersby in Grand Central Station at rush hour. See where the creativity starts!

What’s included:
Round trip coach transport with light breakfast and evening snacks and wine
Lunch at the Art Institute
Intimate group tour before the Art Institute opens to the public
Studio tour where Nick Cave creates his dazzling artworks followed by a visit to his loft to see his eclectic art collection
