Artists and organizations came together to make 2020 a notable year for public art in Grand Rapids. In May, artists working with the organization Lions and Rabbits assembled downtown to paint murals on many of the plywood panels that were put up over broken windows, a project funded by Downtown Grand Rapids Inc (DGRI). 2020 also marked the inauguration of “The Women’s Way Initiative,” an ambitious effort coordinated by DGRI and Lions and Rabbits.

DGRI’s Director of Space Management, Kimberly van Driel, and artists, Jasmine Bruce and Jeffrey Songco, join GRAM’s Chief Curator, Ron Platt, for a lively discussion on DGRI’s goals and ambitions for its public art programs, what motivates an artist to make work for a public audience, and what our participants have planned for 2021.

This event is free to attend, open to the public, and pre-registration is required to access the zoom link.
