Michigan Artist Series
Throughout its 100-year history, the Grand Rapids Art Museum has featured the work of Michigan artists in its exhibition program. This tradition is now formalized into the Michigan Artist Series, to be presented in galleries throughout the Museum, which highlights the work of living artists or designers working in diverse media who reside in the state.
If you are an artist or designer living in Michigan and would like to exhibit your work at the Grand Rapids Art Museum, we invite you to participate in our new proposal process.
GRAM welcomes submissions from artists for review. Prior to submitting your work we ask that you consider our current and past programming in order to determine whether your submission is appropriate to our museum.
The Museum reserves the right to make final selections of the artist’s work at its own discretion and holds the responsibility for installation. An initial meeting and/or conversation with the artist will establish guidelines for selection and the artist’s preferences. Typically each exhibition is on view for ten weeks.
GRAM curators will review artists’ submissions on a quarterly basis. Please note that we do not accept original works of art, nor will we be responsible for any original materials that are sent to us as part of the submission packet. Submissions must be in the form of digital or printed materials, and include the artist’s resume, artist’s statement, and images of representative artwork. Should the curatorial staff determine that the submission is appropriate to our program you will be contacted.
Please be sure to include the following materials, or the digital equivalent:
Please number the digital files to correspond with your slide list. Include representative images of the work you would be interested in exhibiting. Please focus on work over the past few years. There are no formatting requirements; however, it is best to format your images as jpeg files that are approximately 4” x 6” at 72 dpi. We will request higher resolution images if necessary.
