Art often deals with sensitive subjects that students face every day but find difficult to discuss — identity, death and loss, conflict and war, and more. By shifting our attention from personal experience to works of art, this session will explore how to create a safe space for dialogue, opening the door to honest conversation and empathy around challenging topics.

Explore the role of mindfulness in creative practice, with an emphasis on communication. Using GRAM’s galleries and studio for creative awareness exercises and interpersonal communication through the arts, we’ll gather resources to use with students of all ages, plus tools to support your own wellbeing, creative growth, and self-expression.

Enjoy a behind-the-scenes tour of GRAM’s Creative Learning Center — a vibrant space designed for hands-on imaginative play and exploration — as you experiment with the art of play to activate creative and critical thinking for learners of all ages. Using GRAM’s permanent collection and current exhibitions, we’ll explore techniques for connecting with works of art in new ways, and engage in interactive activities, guided prompts, and artmaking projects that unlock new strategies to invigorate your teaching practice and bring back to your classroom.

Art offers multiple points of entry and connection, helping break down barriers, build confidence and community, and strengthen social-emotional skills. Explore the concepts and frameworks of social and emotional learning (SEL) through the visual arts. Using GRAM’s permanent collection and current exhibitions as inspiration, we’ll experiment with interactive activities and artmaking projects to build connections and develop tools for your teaching practice, along with strategies to prioritize student voice and choice that can be scaffolded for any age level.

Experience the green features of the world’s first LEED® Gold-certified art museum. Drawing inspiration from GRAM’s permanent collection and current exhibitions, explore how artists combine art and STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) to push the boundaries of artmaking. Experiment with a range of STEAM activities to take back to your classroom while exploring ways to integrate art across the curriculum. 

Artists are visual storytellers, using their work to reveal, explore, and interpret their world. Investigate several works of art in GRAM’s galleries using the elements of creative storytelling, and engage in interactive prompts to explore these works in greater depth. Experiment with artmaking in GRAM Studio with hands-on activities inspired by works on view, and explore inter­dis­ci­pli­nary approaches to storytelling that use visual art as a catalyst.

• $400 for a half-day or evening session (2 – 3‑hour sessions).
• $800 for a full-day session (5 – 6‑hour sessions).

• GRAM requires a minimum of 8 participants per session, with a maximum capacity of 30 participants per session.
• Sessions must be booked at least one month in advance and are based on scheduling and space availability.
