Art Programming for Adults

Art belongs to all of us. Our adult programming helps you connect more deeply to art and others, develop new skills, and express yourself through a variety of mediums.

Artmaking

Relax, learn new skills, and get creative. Our workshops explore a wide variety of mediums and techniques, leading you through the creation of your own work of art.

Adult Workshop Series

In these three-hour workshops, adults will visit and discuss pieces that use a specific process, then learn to use the tools and techniques themselves.
Open to ages 16+. 20% off for members.

Saturday Studio Sessions

These once-a-month artmaking sessions include hands-on projects and gallery tours that will help you develop a deeper understanding of art and personal expression. 20% off for members.

Drop-in Studio

No registration necessary, these drop-in workshops explore a different technique every Saturday from 11 am — 3 pm. Friendly for kids and adults with all skill levels welcome. Free for members or free with admission for non-members.

Gazing at GRAM

Gazing at GRAM is a specialized tour of the Grand Rapids Art Museum which engages guests with memory loss, such as Alzheimer’s disease, dementia, and brain injury, as well as cancer patients. Tours feature different works of art and exhibitions on each date, last approximately 60 minutes, and can be scheduled between 10 am and 4 pm on the dates listed below. GRAM is handicap accessible, and a lunch space is available upon request.

Through docent-led facilitated observation and discussion of original works of art throughout the Museum’s galleries, participants:

  • Explore and exchange ideas about art and artists
  • Activate the imagination and think creatively
  • Experience intellectual stimulation
  • Make connections between personal stories and the world at large
  • Participate in a meaningful activity that fosters personal growth

Parking: Parking is available directly next to the Museum’s entrance for your group’s shuttle.

Cost: $6 per guest, free for caregivers and staff. Payment is not due until the day of the program.

*Extra $15 flat fee charged to cover security

Virtual Gazing at GRAM Experiences Available. Using Zoom or Microsoft Teams, your group can take a live virtual tour of the museum with a docent leading the discussion through the galleries. Cost is $50 per session, and tours can be themed to create a unique experience for your guests.
