Family Day: Make an Impression!

Saturday, Aug 13, 2022
11:00 am — 3:00 pm

Join GRAM for a day filled with interactive art experiences for the whole family. To celebrate the Museum’s exhibition In a New Light: American Impressionism 1870 – 1940, activities will be themed around using your creativity and inspiration to express what makes you unique. Activities are available from 11 am – 3 pm, and are designed for children and adults of all ages.

  • Art Making Project: Impressionist Palette Paintings: Using canvas and puffy paint, create an Impressionism-inspired scene with a palette tool.
  • Gallery Chats with Docents: Stop by the exhibition and chat with a docent to learn more about the artists and the techniques they used to create the landscapes, seascapes, portraits, and city scenes on view.
  • Scavenger Hunt: Travel the galleries and win a special prize by completing a scavenger hunt throughout In a New Light: American Impressionism 1870 – 1940.
  • Story Time in the Galleries: Listen to a story about a famous Impressionist artist and participate in an interactive color game.
  • Impressionist Garden Mural: Grab some art supplies and add your personal touch to a group mural. Stop by throughout the event to see the colors of the garden emerge!
  • Community Showcase: Stop by the Auditorium to talk with organizations from our community to learn what family-friendly resources and activities they bring to the city. Participating organizations include the Grand Rapids Symphony, Kent District Library, Blandford Nature Center, Grand Rapids Public Museum, John Ball Zoo, and the Hispanic Center of Western Michigan.

All activities are included with Museum admission, and no registration is required.

Please note: Program safety measures include face covering recommendations, regular sanitization and cleaning, and restricting the sharing of tools/materials among participants. Masks will be available for those who do not have one.
