Chapel of Ghouls’ Artist Statement and Biography:
Chapel of Ghouls is a one-man art project from Grand Rapids, Michigan with a strong focus on the mental health — whether it’s depression, hypochondria, anxiety, etc. The artist believes that in order to cope with these disorders, one must face them to understand them. Chapel of Ghouls uses mediums such as painting, writing, drawing in order to get out the dark feelings that come from within. The more we talk about mental health the more we understand. The more we understand the more we can help those in need.
This piece is a commentary on war propaganda that encourages people to fight for their country. To encourage them to strip away all feeling and become an emotionless slave to the military. This piece is a reminder to those who have been stripped of their emotions, a reminder that it is okay to talk about how you feel and what you’re going through. This isn’t only a message to the military and veterans, it’s a message to anyone who may be too stubborn to open up emotionally. I want to encourage anyone who may be struggling with mental health issues to put their pride aside and open up.
