Adult Workshop: Introduction to Coil Baskets

Thursday, May 27, 2021
6:00 pm — 9:00 pm

Sold Out

Attend GRAM’s Adult Workshops and discover three hours of artmaking and gallery activities. Tour the collection galleries while discussing the history and context of a different process, then experience an in-depth demonstration of tools and techniques before creating your own unique project. Leave with a record of what was taught along with a list of resources for continuing at home. All materials provided. Open to ages 16+.

On May 27, join GRAM Studio for an evening introduction to coil basketry. Tour the galleries and get inspired by woven objects found within GRAM exhibitions such as American Perspectives: Stories From the American Folk Art Museum Collection. Then, you will learn how to weave a basket using unique coiling methods, how to bind, and create unique designs with the use of rope and reclaimed yarns. Participants are welcome to bring in their own yarns or strips of fabric to weave into their coil basket creations.

Please note: programming at GRAM is running with enhanced safety measures, including reduced program capacity to ensure distancing, face covering requirements, regular sanitization and cleaning, and restricting the sharing of tools/materials among participants.
