Artist Talk: Christopher Myers
Thursday, Jun 22, 2023
6:30 pm — 7:30 pm
Join us for an artist talk and conversation with artist Christopher Myers, whose work Wovoka (2022) is on view on GRAM’s third floor.
“History is the story of where you have come from, mythology is the story of why and where you are going. My work as a storyteller and as an artist centers on pulling mythologies apart from official records. Especially for African Americans and other marginalized folks, we must learn to read these records for our unwritten histories, to see ourselves in the empty spaces on the page.”
Christopher Myers is an artist and writer whose work across disciplines is rooted in storytelling. His diverse practice spans textiles, performance, film, and sculptural objects, often created in collaboration with artisans from around the globe. Myers’ artwork translates his careful research into beautiful objects which highlight extraordinary, overlooked histories.
This event is free as part of Meijer Free Thursday Nights.
