Drop-in Studio: Cyanotypes

Drop in to GRAM Studio to experiment with new artmaking techniques during guided workshops for all ages and skill levels. Drop-in Studio sessions occur every Saturday from 1 — 4 pm, and are included with general Museum admission.

Invented in 1842 by astronomer John Hershel and subsequently made famous by botanist Anna Atkins, cyanotypes are a way of taking photographs without a camera. Explore this early method of photography with GRAM Studio. Layer objects atop fabric treated with UV sensitive chemicals to create a one-of-a-kind image atop the blue or cyan” background of your print.
