Scout Event Day at GRAM

Saturday, Nov 6, 2021
9:30 am — 3:30 pm

Join GRAM for a day of fun just for Scouts! Girl Scouts and Cub Scouts of all levels are invited to take part in several activity stations throughout the Museum. Enjoy three floors of art, games in the galleries, interactive elements, and art-making projects in GRAM Studio.

Registration required by October 22. Book early before spaces are sold out. To register, please contact Kristen Hoeker, Group Experience and Volunteer Manager, at khoeker@artmuseumgr.org or 616.831.2930.

Activities:

Become an Artist: Scouts put their creativity to work in the GRAM Studio! Artist Jasper Johns often referred to his prints as a working proof”, an artwork that has been embellished by hand, reevaluated, and reworked by the artist. Scouts will explore the process of a working proof through foam relief prints. They will begin by drawing a symbol that tells a story about them. Then, bring that symbol to life by creating a foam print. Last, Scouts will explore CMYK layering and composition to create unique, transformative prints.

GRAM Docents will take Scouts through the exhibition An Interwoven Legacy: The Black Ash Basketry of Kelly Church and Cherish Parrish. Scouts will hear about the legacy of the Native American basket making traditions and then try their hand at making their own baskets to take home.

GRAM Docents will take Scouts through the newest exhibition, An Art of Changes: Jasper Johns Prints. Explore six decades of the artist’s works and discover some secret stories behind the prints. Scouts will have an interactive experience along the way with a special prize.
