Virtual Visionnaire Series: Lavinia Hanachiuc

Tuesday, Mar 30, 2021
5:00 pm — 6:00 pm

Join us for the next Visionnaire Series conversation on Tuesday, March 30! Ceramicist and mixed-media artist Lavinia Hanachiuc will discuss her background, career, and the future projects that she has in store for 2021 and beyond.

Hanachiuc is Romanian-born and works in multiple art mediums, currently teaching and residing in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Her interest in community art has increased in her career after emigrating to the United States in 2000. A lot of Hanachiuc’s recent work is created through community collaborations, is short-lived, participatory, and best experienced in the moment. She has exhibited locally and internationally and temporarily resided in Italy, Japan, Iceland, and Canada. Alienation, belonging, and narratives of situations undone with a touch of magical realism are themes found in her pieces. Her work has been described by American Book Review as raw and unaffected by social constraints” or simpler put by Anonymous maybe in a museum, not in my cubicle.”

This virtual conversation will be moderated by GRAM Membership Manager Michael Catching.

This event is organized by the Visionnaire Executive Committee. The Visionnaire Executive Committee is a group of creative young adults, ages 21 – 40, committed to introducing new audiences to the Grand Rapids Art Museum and encouraging lifelong engagement. Through a variety of events and programs, the Executive Committee furthers GRAM’s mission to connect people through art, creativity, and design, and promote the Museum’s world-class collection and special exhibitions.
