WMCAT Teen Arts + Tech Fashion: Rewind Exhibition

West Michigan Center for Arts & Technology (WMCAT), in collaboration with the Grand Rapids Art Museum, presents Rewind.

Working with GRAM’s Learning + Creativity department, teen artists from WMCAT’s Arts + Tech Intro to Fashion and Advanced Fashion programs have created two collections inspired by works from GRAM’s Permanent Collection during the 2022 – 2023 school year.

Eight teen artists from five Grand Rapids Public Schools high schools have their work on display in this exhibition, featuring 14 designs between the two collections.

The first collection of outerwear was inspired by Ellsworth Kelly’s Blue White. This denim jacket collection had three criteria: it must be inspired by Blue White; it must have appliques and functioning closures; and it must generate an understated design.

The second collection of avant-garde outfits explored themes of sustainability and the environmental impact of humans and was inspired by selected works from GRAM’s Permanent Collection. Students were encouraged to express themselves freely while interpreting the works they selected within the Permanent Collection.
