David Lubbers: Haunted Terrain

May 6, 2025 — Aug 3, 2025
Secchia Upper Lobby Gallery

Born in Holland Michigan, artist David Lubbers has spent his life photographing the landscape of his home state: Michigan. His enigmatic photographs reveal not only the physical form of the land but also remind us of the emotional power that nature can have over us. His uncanny ability to capture nuances within the darkest shadows imbues his photographs with a sense of the mystery of the sublime. Beyond Michigan, Lubbers documented his extensive travels, including throughout the Netherlands, the American Southwest, and Mexico, chronicling seventeen countries in total.

Lubbers graduated from Calvin College in 1969 and earned his master’s degree from Michigan State University in 1973. He taught for twelve years in the Grand Rapids Public Schools. He lives and works in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

This exhibition will feature works from GRAM’s collection in the first floor Secchia Gallery from May 6 — August 3, 2025.
