About the Artwork
The used bookshops, curiosity shops, and antique stores of New York City were favorite subjects of painter and printmaker Alexander Blum. In this 1936 etching, Old Bookshop, he carefully rendered dozens of books stacked up in the store windows, with more spilling out onto the front pavement in piles arranged on old church pews and benches.
