About the Artwork
Artist Toshiyuki Kita established his own design office at age 25, where he pursued his research on lifestyle goods and traditional Japanese handcrafts. In 1969, Kita began to work in Italy as well as Japan, focusing on furniture and product design. This Tomo Floor Light in the Museum’s collection highlights Kita’s ingenuity, sophistication, and playful nature.
Over his career, Kita has created many remarkable designs for European and Japanese manufacturers, including his 2000 design of the LCD for Sharp and a robot for Mitsubishi Electrics. Many of his works are in the permanent collections of international museums, and Kita is also committed to revitalizing and Kota Ezawa promoting traditional Japanese crafts and industries.
