Adult Workshop: Moth Sheeting and Nocturnal Sketching

Saturday, Jul 18, 2026
8:30 pm — 11:00 pm

Join the GRAM and the Land Conservancy of West Michigan for a unique evening of art and nature inspired by The Matter of Awe: Landscapes in Art. This after-dark workshop invites participants to explore the nocturnal world through observation and creative expression.

Using a non-invasive technique called moth or light sheeting, we’ll attract and observe moths and other night-flying insects, offering a fascinating glimpse into local biodiversity. Participants are then invited to respond artistically, through drawing, painting, or photography, capturing the intricate forms and patterns of these nighttime visitors. Basic drawing materials will be provided, though you’re welcome to bring your own.

Registration coming soon.

This adult workshop takes place offsite at Saul Lake Bog Nature Preserve (10471 6 Mile Rd NE, Rockford, MI 49341). Additional details will be provided to participants prior to the workshop.
