To acknowledge and celebrate Cinco de Mayo, GRAM Studio will be guiding us through colorful papel picado. A traditional Mexican craft, papel picado translates to “punched” or “perforated” paper. We will be cutting intricate designs into colored paper, then constructing them into a banner, time permitting.
Participants will need scissors and/or an X‑acto knife, 2 – 4, approximately 9″ x 12″ sheets of tissue paper in assorted colors, pencil or marker and an optional 36″ piece of yarn and tape for display. (x‑actos are highly encouraged for those comfortable working with them, as it allows for more intricate designs) If using an X‑acto, a safe cutting surface, such as a cutting mat, will be needed. Registration is required.
